Посольство України, вул.Тараса Шевченка, 6. 27 серпня 2015 року
Your Excellencies, Dear Friends, Дорогі друзі!
Today we have invited you to celebrate the Twenty Fourth Anniversary of our Independence in the Ukrainian Embassy which is located on Taras Shevchenko street. It is the first street named after our great poet in the Arab world and our Embassy is the first Ukrainian diplomatic mission located on such street.
I would like to once again thank the Mayor of Greater Amman H.E. Mr. Aqil Biltaji, graduates of Ukrainian Universities Mr. Mohammed Annab and Mr. Nidal Akili for their support on this issue. Ukrainian Cultural Fund awarded them with the medals dedicated to the 200th Anniversary of the Poet.
And just three days ago on the occasion of Independence Day Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko awarded Mayor Biltaji for his valuable contribution in popularizing Ukrainian historical heritage with the Order of Merit – one of the highest decorations of Ukraine. Fifteen foreigners were awarded on that day and he was the only one person from the Arab countries. This is additional sign of very friendly relations between our nations. His Majesty King Abdullah II was awarded with Order of Merit but the first degree in 2011 during his first visit to Ukraine.
Thanks to the Mayor Biltaji on March 9 this year we opened the Ukrainian-Jordanian Friendship Park in the beginning of Shevchenko street and planted together one hundred even more Ukrainian trees.
I would also like to thank Mr. Sultan Yassin for creating and installation of the Shevchenko memorial plaque on this street and Mr. Ruslan Ayash for his translation of Ukrainian folk song “The Mighty Dnieper” written by Taras Shevchenko. And it was just the second Shevchenko’s poem translated in Arabic. The first one was translated in 1910 by the prominent Lebanese writer and translator Mikhail Na’ime. Always thankful Ukrainians erected in 2011 his statue in Poltava where Na’ime graduated from Poltava theological seminary.
Ukrainian band “BGeye” with leader Ms. Ganna Nelup will give you an opportunity to listen to it today in Arabic and other Ukrainian songs.
I would like to thank His Majesty King Abdullah the Second, Government and people of Jordan for their continuous support of our country in particular within the United Nations during the most difficult period of our history.
Despite the Russian aggression and destabilization in Crimea and Donbass the Embassy this year has issued five times more visas for Jordanian students than in 2014. Today we issued 4 visas for students who would like to be transferred from Crimea to Lviv medical University.
In fact about 4000 Jordanian medical doctors graduated from Ukrainian Universities and we are on the third place after local and Egyptian medical Universities. And “аl ham durillya” we have many other mutual achievements.
I hope that by the Twenty Fifth Anniversary of our Independence the aggressor will go home and stop killing our citizens both ethnic Ukrainians and ethnic Russians.
They need to free our citizens who were captured on our territory and jailed in Russia: Nadiya Savchenko, Oleg Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko and others. And we need more international support in order to make this happen as soon as possible and stabilize that region and the whole world.
Allow me also to thank our sponsors: Ukrainian Companies “Ukrainian Helicopters” and “International Ukrainian Airlines”, “Roshen” and Jordanian company “Hijazi and Ghosheh Group”.
Let’s raise our glasses for the Twenty Fourth Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence as well as the peace and stability in Ukraine, Jordan and everywhere.
Long life to Ukrainian-Jordanian Friendship!
Слава Україні і Йорданії!
