On August 22, 2010, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine in Jordan S.Pasko met with a number of Jordanian journalists representing the country’s biggest mass-media (state news agency “Petra”, “Al-Rai” newspaper, “Jordan Times” newspaper, “The Star” weekly etc.) on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
During the meeting the head of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission briefed representatives of the local mass-media on the development of internal situation in Ukraine, its foreign policy priorities, the current state and prospects for further development of its relations with the Hashemite Kingdom. In particular he noted the positive trend in recovery of the bilateral relations in the trade and economic sphere. S.Pasko expressed his hope that the goods and services exchange between the two countries would gradually return to the pre-crises levels. If in 2008 the overall volume of trade passed the 1 bln. $US mark and in 2009 it dropped to 489 mln. $US, in the first six months of 2010 it grew by almost 56% compared to the same period last year (from 193.3 mln $US to 301.4 mln. $US).
The Ambassador also emphasized the tight links between Ukraine and Jordan that exists in the cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres. He mentioned thousands of young Jordanians that study at Ukrainian universities, as well as the regular participation of the delegation of Jordanian youth in the International Children Festival “Let’s Change the World for the Better!”, which is held annually at the International Children Center “Artek” in the Crimean peninsular.
On August 23, 2010, a ceremony of raising the State Flag was held at the premises of the Ukrainian Embassy. During the ceremony Ambassador S.Pasko made a speech on the historical development and symbolism of the blue-and-yellow Ukrainian flag.
