On November 7, 2016 Ambassador of Ukraine to Jordan Dr. Sergiy Pasko took part in the official opening of the 18th Lower House of National Assembly of Jordan first ordinary session, during which His Majesty King Abdullah II delivered the Speech underlining the main tasks for the Parliament in the nearest future. The King focused on his attention to regional issues and fighting against terrorism.

After the official part, Deputy Atef Tarawneh was elected as the the Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House) of Jordanian Parliament. Atef Tarawneh won 69 votes during the balloting, well ahead of his closest contender, Abdul Karim Dughmi, who secured 34 votes and Abdullah Al Akayleh who won 21 votes.
