Jordan expresses concern over developments in Ukraine
15 April 2014 17:48

New York, April 14 (Petra) - Jordan has expressed its deep concern over the recent developments in Ukraine and the escalation that could destabilize the whole region.

Jordan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, HRH Prince Zeid bin Raad, said that a mutiny against the State and the Constitution of Ukraine was occurring, adding that its continuation would lead to the dismantling of the state.

"Ukraine had the right to restore its territorial integrity and unity," Prince Zeid said, calling upon the Ukrainian authorities to exhaust all peaceful means with all relevant parties to end the crisis.

He also called on the authorities to respect the principles of human rights, and urged all others with influence to convince the mutineers to end the crisis peacefully.

"The Council must take action to end the crisis," he told a UN Security Council session.

Prince Zeid called for non-intervention in the internal affairs of Ukraine and an end to any act of force against it.

"It was in the interest of the international community as a whole to preserve the integrity of international law, which was the cornerstone of equality among States," he said.
