On May 24, 2014 Ambassador of Ukraine Dr. Serhiy Pasko visited the Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman, where was held His Majesty King Abdullah with Pope Francis meeting.
At the meeting with the Pope, King Abdullah said the papal visit delivers an important message of tolerance and coexistence between Muslims and Christians.
The Pontiff noted Jordan has offered a generous welcome to great numbers of Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as to other refugees from troubled areas, particularly neighbouring Syria, ravaged by a conflict which has lasted all too long.
Papa Francis thanked the authorities of the Kingdom for all for the continuing grave tensions in the Middle East and encouraged them to persevere in their efforts to seek lasting peace for the entire region. This great goal urgently requires that a peaceful solution be found to the crisis in Syria, as well as a just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Finally Papa said that he cordially invoked peace and prosperity upon the Kingdom of Jordan and its people. He prayed that his visit would help to advance and strengthen good and cordial relations between Christians and Muslims.
King Abdullah II and Pope Francis also discussed Jordanian-Vatican relations and ways of strengthening them in various fields.
